The 2021 Border-Gavaskar Trophy concluded with a historic Test match at the Gabba in Brisbane, when India achieved what was considered nearly impossible – defeating Australia at their fortress for the first time in 32 years and clinching the series 2-1. India chased down 328 on the final day with 3 wickets to spare, led by Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 89 and crucial contributions from Shubman Gill (91) and Cheteshwar Pujara (56).

What made this victory even more special was that India was missing several key players due to injuries, including regular captain Virat Kohli (paternity leave), Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, R Ashwin, and others. The bowling attack was particularly inexperienced, led by Mohammed Siraj who was playing just his third Test.
Australia had not lost a Test match at the Gabba since 1988 (against West Indies), making it their fortress for over three decades. The ground was considered one of the most challenging venues for visiting teams due to its bounce and pace.
The series victory was even more remarkable considering India had been bowled out for 36 in the first Test at Adelaide. Under Ajinkya Rahane’s leadership, they came back to win in Melbourne, drew an epic match in Sydney where Ashwin and Vihari batted through injuries, and finally conquered the Gabba.
