Sanjay Singh has been named as the new Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president on December 21. Sanjay, who was the former WFI chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh’s aid has been appointed to the post after a series of delays relating to the elections.
The appointment will also lift WFI’s suspension put on them by Wrestling’s world governing body United World Wrestling (UWW).
Earlier, UWW had put a suspension on WFI because of the federation failing to conduct elections on time.
The elections were conducted for 15 posts, namely for the president, treasurer, secretary-general, and senior vice-president in Delhi.

The two names which were realistically in the contention for President were Commonwealth Games Gold medalist Anita Sheoran and the former vice-president of Wrestling Federation of India Sanjay Singh.
Sanjay Singh has promised the people to bring the glory days back to the Federation as it has been functioning in the past. The federation has given a lot of champion wrestlers to the nation which helped India win many Olympic and Commonwealth Games medals as well.
Despite of a long protest by Indian wrestlers against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, many people are upset that one of his aids have been given the position rather than a former Indian player who has brought laurels for the country.
Wrestlers like Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia etc, sat on protest at Jantar Mantar for a long period, accusing Brij Bhushan of sexual harassment with a fellow wrestler which saw many people supporting the cause as well.
