In a major leadership switch, West Indies have named 33-year-old all-rounder Roston Chase as their new captain in Test cricket. He will succeed Kraigg Brathwaite, who captained the team in 39 Test matches. West Indies won 10 matches, lost 22, and drew 7 during Brathwaite’s tenure as captain. Now, the onus of leading the team into the future lies on the shoulders of Chase.
Returns to Test Cricket After Two Years
Roston Chase played his last Test match in March 2023 against South Africa. Having been away from the longest format of the game for two years, he not only returned to the team but has also been given the responsibility of the captaincy. West Indies played 13 Test matches since 2023 without considering Chase for the playing XI. His comeback is a big change in team dynamics. Chase has once captained West Indies in an ODI and once in a T20I.
Captaincy Debut against Australia
Chase’s first big test as captain will be against Australia, with West Indies hosting them in a three-Test series from June 25 in Bridgetown, Barbados. The high-profile series will be his maiden test in a captain’s role in Test cricket, and everyone will be waiting to see how he copes with the pressure.

The selection panel, which included Cricket Director Miles Bascombe, Cricket Committee Chairman Enoch Lewis, Head Coach Daren Sammy, and Chief Executive Officer Chris Dehring, interviewed all the potential candidates.
