‘We Have Been Colleagues’: MS Dhoni Clears Air On Relation With Virat Kohli

MS Dhoni spotted the talent of Virat Kohli early in his career and helped him through many stages in his development as a player.

The bond between MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli has grown over the years, which is grounded in mutual respect and admiration. Both players have frequently praised each other publicly, and their strong rapport is clearly seen both on and off the field.

Recently, a video that has gone viral shows Dhoni addressing his relationship with Kohli. Dhoni acknowledged the age difference between them but expressed his belief that Virat is one of the finest players in world cricket.

“We have been playing since 2008/09, there’s still an age gap. So I don’t know whether I would say like I am an older brother or colleague or whatever name you give it. But at the end of the day, we have been colleagues, you know, who played for India for a very long time. He has been amongst the best when it comes to world cricket,” Dhoni said at the event.

Virat Kohli has never held himself back from praising MS Dhoni, the way Dhoni handles pressure and the responsibility of being a captain. Kohli has said that when he took over as captain, Dhoni’s support meant a lot.

Dhoni, on his part, has praised Virat Kohli on many occasions for his batting skills, his passion for the game, and his awesome level of physical fitness. Dhoni spotted the talent of Kohli early in his career and helped him through many stages in his development as a player. The transition of captaincy from Dhoni to Kohli was remarkably smooth as both of them shared a healthy respect for each other. Dhoni resigned as captain of the Indian limited-overs teams in 2017, handing over the mantle to Kohli, who had earlier taken over as Test captain in 2014.

Kohli has spoken about how, even after his stepping down from captaincy, Dhoni remained a guiding force whenever the going got really tough. In his view, he found Dhoni to be like a mentor, who was there to give advice at every step.
