It is the outstanding show of the team and the attacking leadership of Ganguly that made them win and capture the prestigious NatWest trophy. England got to bat and they got off to a good start. Marcus Trescothick, the opener, was well settled in the crease to make a century where he scored 109 runs in 100 balls, consisting of boundaries 7 and sixes 2. Captain Naseer Hussain too scored 115 runs in 128 balls, whereas Andrew Flintoff added 40 runs to the scorecard. Such performances helped England to forge an impregnable score of 325 runs.

Indian Response

In response, the Indian openers, Virender Sehwag and Ganguly, started the run chase nicely as the two put up a 106-run stand till Ganguly was bowled out by Alex Tudor after scoring 60 runs off 43 balls. Ashley Giles got rid of Sehwag in the next wicket, who was a few short of the half century with 45 runs out of 49 balls. The middle order was no good, and Dinesh Mongia, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid scored 9, 14, and 5 runs respectively.

The Anderson-Tendulkar is levelled, and both the powerhouses of cricket are currently in the contest for the third Test match at Lord’s. While the scores were levelled after both teams batted once.
