Even as questions swirl around his future in India’s white-ball setup, Rohit Sharma is quietly doing what he’s always done best – putting in the hard yards. On Friday, October 10, the veteran opener was spotted training intensively at Mumbai’s iconic Shivaji Park, working closely with former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar ahead of the upcoming Australia tour.
Rohit, who recently retired from T20I cricket after leading India to a historic title at the 2024 T20 World Cup, will be part of only the ODI leg of the tour, which includes three ODIs and five T20Is. With the first ODI scheduled in Perth on Sunday, October 19, the 36-year-old is leaving no stone unturned to be in top shape.
Crowd Gathers, Rohit Wins Hearts
Shivaji Park, a breeding ground for Indian cricketing greats – turned into a fan zone as news of Rohit’s training spread. Dozens of fans gathered around the nets, eager to catch a glimpse of their idol in action.
Amid the intense practice session, a heartwarming moment stole the show. A young boy managed to sneak past the ropes in an attempt to meet Rohit. Before he could reach the former Indian captain, security personnel intercepted him – but what happened next showcased Rohit’s humble side.
In a video that has now gone viral on social media, Rohit is seen gesturing to the security staff to let the boy through. He then warmly interacts with the young fan, drawing loud cheers and applause from the crowd. It was a brief but beautiful moment that reminded everyone why Rohit remains one of the most loved figures in Indian cricket – both for his class on the field and his grounded nature off it.
A little kid ran towards Rohit Sharma to meet him, but security stopped him. Seeing this, Rohit shouted at security and said, "Let him come."🥹❤️

Eyeing a Strong Comeback
This training session comes at a significant juncture in Rohit’s career. Just months after guiding India to victory in the Champions Trophy in March, where he was also named Player of the Match in the final for his gritty 73 – he was relieved of ODI captaincy.
Though he’s no longer leading the side, Rohit’s intent is clear: he’s focused on making every opportunity count. A strong showing in Australia could go a long way in reaffirming his value in the 50-over format, especially with the next ICC event not far away.
For now, though, Rohit Sharma is doing what he does best – grinding it out quietly, winning hearts off the field, and getting ready to deliver on it.
