The most complete cricketer in history strengthened his reputation by achieving something no one had ever done before 13 years ago. As the sport’s leading run-scorer and its all-time greatest batter Sachin Tendulkar achieved something no one believed would happen as his career extended into its final years.
The Ultimate Batting Achievement
At the 38-year-old age Tendulkar achieved his 100th international century on March 16, 2012 while playing against Bangladesh at the Asia Cup group stage. The world witnessed his 49th ODI century during a Bangladesh match which turned out to be his first in that format.

The Long-Awaited Moment
The hundredth international century of Tendulkar exceeded its basic numerical value. His 100th international century served as an emblem of his complete dedication to cricket from his very beginning to the end of his career. Tendulkar had to face an extended one-year wait until he scored his 100th century by batting against South Africa in the 2011 World Cup at Nagpur.
More Than Just Numbers
exclusive right to bowl first went to Bangladesh so Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir started the Indian batting order. The cricketing world witnessed how Tendulkar mindfully separated each Bangladesh bowler en route to achieving a crucial mark which the sport had ignored until he came within reach of it.
The Match Progression
Achieving his century ended the tremendous mental burden Tendulkar experienced throughout the year that led up to it. Within 102 balls Tendulkar reached his first eighty runs then hit Shakib Al Hasan for 36 balls to score Bangladesh’s first-ever World Cup Test century.

The Weight of Expectation
Tendulkar gained dominance while facing Shahadat Hossain through a pair of productive shots that he followed with an edge into the wicketkeeping gloves. The batsman exited the field at the same time as Suresh Raina concluded his rapid-scoring innings.
A Measured Century
The historical century scored by Tendulkar consisted of 114 runs from 147 deliveries which included 12 boundaries and one six but was not his most fluid century. The slowness of Tendulkar’s performances during this century ranked as number two on his ODI list which resulted in India finishing their innings with 289/5.
