Virat Kohli holds a unique record in the Indian Premier League as the sole player to have remained loyal to one franchise throughout his career. Celebrating 16 years with Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 11, 2024, Kohli initially joined the team after leading the U-19 Indian team to a World Cup victory. Since his debut in 2008, Kohli has been a stalwart for Bangalore, also serving as captain for several seasons.
Renowned not only as RCB’s top performer but also as one of the tournament’s most prolific batters, Kohli’s standout season was in 2016, where he scored over 900 runs, including four centuries. Despite personal success, the team faced defeat in the final against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kohli stepped down from the captaincy ahead of IPL 2022, with Faf du Plessis taking over. His contributions as an opener or at No. 3 have often been match-winning.
Royal Challengers Bangalore paid tribute to Kohli’s loyalty with a video featuring him in various moods accompanied by a KGF song. Currently in London with his family, Kohli hasn’t confirmed his participation in IPL 2024. He prioritized family by opting out of the England Test series for the birth of his second child and has refrained from cricket since then.
