India’s captain Rohit Sharma marked the team’s T20 World Cup 2024 win in a distinctive manner on Saturday. Facing South Africa in the final in Barbados, Rohit’s team clinched a tense victory, ending an 11-year drought for an ICC title. Amid tears of happiness among the Indian squad, Rohit chose to immortalize the moment by consuming some sand from the pitch where he achieved his first ICC title as captain.

In a video posted by the ICC, Rohit Sharma was captured lifting sand from the Barbados pitch, where India and South Africa had contested the final. The Hitman then placed the sand in his mouth.

After the match concluded, Rohit Sharma also announced his retirement from T20 International cricket during the press conference.

“This was my last game as well,” the captain stated in his post-match press conference, echoing a similar announcement made earlier by Virat Kohli.

Rohit expressed his enjoyment of playing the T20 format since the beginning of his career, emphasizing that there couldn’t be a better moment to bid farewell. Rohit expressed his gratitude towards head coach Rahul Dravid, highlighting his immense contributions to Indian cricket over the past two to three decades. He remarked that winning the T20 World Cup was a significant achievement for Dravid, and he was pleased that the team could accomplish this for him.
