Earlier speculations revolved around Captain Rohit Sharma’s missing the last group stage match. Rohit Sharma was earlier considered to have experienced pain during the Pakistan clash in his hamstring. He was also seen to struggle for the initial part of the game. He left the field after the end of the 26th over.

Rahul Says Entire Squad Fit for New Zealand Clash

The star batter has closed the shutters on speculation over the availability of Rohit Sharma for India’s Rahul has ended speculations regarding Sharma’s participation in the match against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy. KL confirmed that all the players in the squad are fit before their final group match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

This clarification, however, runs counter to recent rumors being circulated that captain Rohit Sharma and Mohammad Shami might get sidelined for the game against New Zealand. Two incidents in India’s previous game against Pakistan raised concerns over their fitness.

Rohit Sharma appeared to have suffered a hamstring injury while fielding. Mohammed Shami was seen having ankle trouble after his bowling spell and even had to leave the field temporarily before returning to finish his full quota of overs.

Position of India in the Tournament

Having won their first two matches against Bangladesh and Pakistan, India has already qualified for the semifinals of the Champions Trophy. As they have secured qualification for the semifinals, the management is likely to want their captain to get a bit more match practice before the all-important knockout stage kicks in. Rahul’s statement points towards the fact that Rohit will indeed be a part of this instance.
