New Delhi: Marcelo broke down in tears after injuring an opponent with an errant tackle during the Copa Libertadores match on Tuesday 1 August. While playing for Fluminense FC in Buenos Aires against Argentinos Junior, the Brazilian international was shown a red card and sent off in tears after an unfortunate turn of events.

Marcelo breaks Luciano Sanchez legs

The gut-wrenching moment came when Marcelo, known for his exceptional footwork, headed past Sanchez. However, in an unexpected twist, his lead foot went over the ball and accidentally hit the Argentinian player's shin. The impact twisted Sanchez's leg at an alarming angle, causing him to collapse on the pitch. The 29-year-old Argentine was in terrible pain, while Marcelo was visibly upset.

Marcelo gets red card

A clearly distraught Marcelo was shown a red card after the incident and had to leave the pitch with tears in his eyes. The sight of the veteran left-back, once a Real Madrid star, walking off the pitch in such a condition added to the oppressive atmosphere of the match. Sanchez was immediately taken off the field on a stretcher and taken to nearby Finochet Sanatorium for further treatment. The club will continue to update fans on Sanchez's injury and urge fans to continue to honor Sanchez's prayers.

Marcelo wishes for speedy recovery

Marcelo has expressed his regret over the grievous injury on social media. "Today I had to go through a very difficult moment on the field. accidentally injuring his colleague. Luciano Sanchez wishing him a speedy recovery. all the power in the world," he wrote on Instagram. Fluminense FC echoed his sentiments, expressing their solidarity and wishing Sanchez a speedy recovery. Despite the shocking turn of events, the match continued and ended in a 1-1 draw at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. The two sides will encounter each other again next Tuesday at the Maracanã Stadium for a place in the quarter-finals.
