The fielding performances of the Pakistan cricket team have faced considerable criticism recently. In the Test series against Australia, numerous missed catches and fielding errors frustrated fans. The disappointment continued in the first T20I against New Zealand in Auckland when Babar Azam failed to make what should have been an easy catch.

A shot by Williamson off Abbas Afridi’s bowling went towards Babar at mid-on, but he misjudged it, squandering a straightforward opportunity. This incident caused a social media mayhem, with fans expressing their dissatisfaction and roasting Babar for the missed chance.

Pakistan won the toss and their new captain Shaheen Shah Afridi asked New Zealand to bat in the first Twenty20 international in Auckland on Friday.

Babar is already not having a good start to the season with the bat and is now getting unwanted attention while fielding for the Men in Green as well.

It wasn’t just the rival fans who were reacting on the dropped catch as Pakistan fans also showed disbelief on the incident.

Shaheen is taking charge of the Pakistan team for the first time in any format, as Babar Azam stepped down from the captaincy following Pakistan’s inability to reach the semi-finals of the 50-over Cricket World Cup last year.

Leading New Zealand is experienced batsman Kane Williamson, who was absent from the home ODI and T20 series against Bangladesh in December due to a knee injury.
