The Austrian Grand Prix 2025 at Red Bull Ring kicked off with a bang as Red Bull ace driver, Max Verstappen, crashed out on the first lap after he collided with Mercedes newcomer Andrea Kimi Antonelli. The two drivers were forced to retire, leaving the race in disarray.

What happened during the F1 race?

Formula 1 racing started with McLaren’s Lando Norris in pole position, with Verstappen on P7 after a demanding qualifying. Mercedes’ Antonelli, however, was on P9. It was during Turn 3 that the race was messy. Antonelli braked hard, and his Mercedes collided with Verstappen’s Red Bull. Both vehicles were damaged, and they were compelled to retire from the race. A safety car was summoned to remove the wreckage.

What happens next?

With Verstappen and Antonelli out, Norris and Piastri have a clear shot at dominating. George Russell will aim for another win after his previous year’s success. The crash raises questions about Verstappen’s future and Antonelli’s growth prospects.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has now responded to the rumors surrounding Verstappen’s move to Mercedes in 2026. Christian Horner put an end to the current rumors, reminding everyone that Verstappen is contracted to Red Bull for a number of years yet.
