Pakistan’s dismal performance at the T20 World Cup in the USA has sparked national outrage, with captain Babar Azam facing heavy scrutiny from all quarters. Pakistan’s early exit from the tournament, highlighted by shocking defeats to the USA and India, has led to questions about Babar’s future as captain and his recent poor batting form. The fallout from this cricket debacle has even reached the halls of Pakistan’s National Assembly. During a session, Assembly member Abdul Qadir Patel humorously trolled Babar, suggesting a bizarre remedy inspired by former Prime Minister and cricket legend Imran Khan’s actions in 2022. Patel proposed that Babar should mimic Imran Khan’s dramatic gesture of waving a document at a rally to claim a conspiracy against him.

While addressing the assembly, Patel highlighted Pakistan’s consecutive losses to the USA and India, which paved the way for their elimination. He also urged the team to come together for the sake of the country and its impoverished citizens.

“Ye cricket team ko kya hua hai. Yeh America se bhi haar gaye. Yeh India se bhi haar gaye toh Babar Azam ko apne hi kisi senior cricketer se sabak lete hue haarne ke baad ek jalsa rakhe, woh usme kagaz lehraye bole dekho yeh mere khilaf saazish ho rahi hai, koi usse kuch nahi puchega. Uske baad jo hai woh baat hi khatam ho jayegi,” Abdul Qadir Patel stated in the parliament.

Pakistan, the 2009 champions and finalists in 2007 and 2022, failed to advance past the group stage after losing their opening matches to the USA and India. Head coach Gary Kirsten was candid in his assessment, criticizing the team’s lack of unity and expressing his shock at the unprecedented situation within the squad. Entering the tournament as runners-up from the previous edition, Pakistan’s campaign in the USA is regarded as one of the worst in recent memory. The team secured only a solitary win against Ireland, following an unexpected defeat to the USA and a crushing loss to arch-rivals India.
