Dropped averages
With astonishing low averages that mark the rock-bottom of his international journey, Kohli has experienced a statistical nightmare that few could have anticipated. Despite his century in the Perth test, in Test cricket, his average got to a mere 25.06, the lowest in any calendar year of his career. The One Day International (ODI) format saw an equally dismal performance, with Kohli averaging just 19.33 – a figure that would be considered uncharacteristic for even an emerging player, let alone a batting icon. The T20 International stage was no different, where he scraped through with a meager 18.00 average. These numbers, compiled across a minimum of 10 innings, represent a stark departure from the batting excellence that had defined Kohli’s reputation over the past decade, raising questions about form, fitness, and future potential.

Domestic cricket a solution?
Indian great Anil Kumble and Dinesh Kartik has su7ggested that playing domestic cricket could help Virat Kohli recover his form. “Playing real matches is better than practice”, Kumble suggested. But ICC and former BCCI chair Jay Shah has clearly stated that they cannot insist senior player like Virat Kohli to slip out of the national team and appear for domestic cricket. But after seeing Kohli in the New Zealand series at home and now at the BGT, is opting for domestic cricket the right approach to consider for him.
