Indian cricket stars Virat Kohli and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja are among the four contenders for the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy, awarded to the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year for 2023. The other two nominees include Australia’s Pat Cummins, the captain of the World-Cup-winning team, and Travis Head, the hero of the final.
Virat Kohli, aiming for his third Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy, had an exceptional 2023 marked by remarkable run-scoring achievements. In the previous year, Kohli achieved a historic milestone by surpassing ICC Hall of Famer Sachin Tendulkar with his 50th ODI century. Additionally, he secured the Player of the Tournament award from CWC23 and accumulated an impressive total of 2048 international runs.
Kohli’s outstanding performance in the World Cup played a crucial role in India reaching the finals. The prolific batter scored an impressive 765 runs, setting a record for the most runs by any player in a single edition of the World Cup.

In 2023, Pat Cummins had an outstanding year, achieving remarkable success by leading Australia to victory in both the ICC World Test Championship Final and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Final. Notably honored as the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year in 2019, Cummins showcased exceptional captaincy skills and delivered stellar performances with the ball, securing 59 wickets across both Tests and ODIs.
Travis Head played a pivotal role in Australia’s triumphant campaign, particularly standing out in crucial moments throughout the year. His batting prowess was on full display in both finals, earning him the Player of the Match award. Head accumulated nearly 1700 runs across various formats and made significant contributions by taking crucial wickets with the ball.
Moreover, Head finds himself shortlisted for the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year 2023, alongside players such as Usman Khawaja, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Joe Root. His all-round contributions underline his versatility and impact in the cricketing arena during the specified period.
