Virat Kohli Makes A Stunning Claim On Potential T20I Retirement U-Turn, Says ‘If India…’

Virat Kohli hints at a possible T20I return, adding a playful twist to his retirement decision after the World Cup.

Star India batter Virat Kohli on a lighter note has mentioned that he may emerge out of his T20I retirement, but with an asterisk. Kohli declared himself out of the format’s fray following the T20 World Cup final, which India won after beating South Africa in Barbados.

But Kohli, in a lighter mood, expressed that he “might Just’ return from retirement for a single match if India qualify for the final of 2028 Los Angeles Olympics men’s cricket tournament. For the uninitiated, cricket will return to Olympics after 128 years at the 2028 Summer Olympics.

“I don’t know. Perhaps if we are playing for gold medal, that is a lot taken for one game, get a medal. Return home. No, but I feel it is a wonderful thing and to be Olympic champions would be an absolutely marvelous feeling,” Kohli said on the sidelines of Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, powered by Leaders.

Kohli On Fitness

Kohli, 36, is one of the world’s fittest cricketers. But when Kohli first broke onto the international scene, Kohli was an overweight teenager. Talking about what motivated him to start his fitness regimen, Kohli said that the transformation took place after he struggled initially in international cricket.

“My changes followed a couple of hard tours when I observed the lads enduring on the ground longer than us. Things were not hard from the team perspective but persuading my mum was hard. She believed I was ill-looking. I explained to her that the world is discussing my training style and I’m not ill. I felt I could do things considerably better,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Kohli reported to RCB’s team on Saturday before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

In a picture posted by the franchise on social media, Kohli is seen standing in an RCB jersey with the caption saying, “The King is here and like always, he’s 2 steps (sometimes a LOT more) ahead of everyone.”

Kohli was in majestic form throughout India’s championship-winning tour in the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai last week. Rohit Sharma-led team defeated New Zealand in the final to win their third tournament title.

The 36-year-old scored 218 runs in five matches at a rate of 54.50. He hit a match-winning, unbeaten century against arch-rivals Pakistan before hitting an important 84 against Australia in the semi-final.

New RCB Skipper

For the IPL 2025 season, RCB have named Rajat Patidar as their captain following a complete overhaul of their team in last year’s mega auction. RCB will begin their campaign against defending champions KKR at the Eden Gardens on Saturday.
