Vinesh Phogat Faints At Paris Olympics Venue Due To Dehydration, Admitted To Hospital

Sources report that Vinesh Phogat has been hospitalized after fainting due to dehydration during the Paris Olympics.

Wrestler Vinesh Phogat was hospitalized on Wednesday, August 7, in Paris shortly after being disqualified from the women’s 50kg final at the Paris Olympics. According to sources, she fainted due to dehydration. Phogat was disqualified for being 150 grams overweight during the weigh-in on the second day of the competition. She was preparing for the Olympic gold medal match but missed the weigh-in.

Vinesh Phogat is currently in the polyclinic of the Olympic Village, where she is stable and resting. Unfortunately, the Indian team cannot appeal the disqualification decision. Despite the extreme efforts of Vinesh, her coaches, and support staff, including cutting her hair and attempting to draw out blood, they were unable to meet the weight requirement.

Sources say that Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with IOA President P.T. Usha to get firsthand information and explore any options for India following Vinesh’s setback. According to UWW rules, an athlete who fails or misses the weigh-in is eliminated from the competition and ranked last without rank.
