Venkatesh Iyer Faces Heat As RP Singh Questions KKR Management’s Rs. 23.75 Crore Gamble

The former Indian cricketer RP Singh has questioned KKR's management for retaining Venkatesh Iyer for such a huge price and said they made a mistake letting Shreyas Iyer go.

The former Indian cricketer RP Singh has criticised KKR’s management for making the decision for retaining Venkatesh Iyer in team that also with a huge price tag of 23.75 Cr. which he is not able to live up to. RP Singh discussed his view regarding the left-handed batsman participating in the tournament and requiring additional bat time. The team franchise remained wrong when they released Shreyas Iyer because he captained their third championship during the previous season.

RP Singh’s Views On KKR Management’s Decision

“KKR have invested a lot in Venkatesh Iyer. He has been given a lot of time. Let him be an opener. When you make a player a part of your team in such a big auction, you must be thinking about whether he will be our main player or our captaincy material. But both those things are not there. I think KKR management has made a mistake. When you left your best captain (Shreyas Iyer) at the auction table, somebody would definitely pick him, and now he’s captaining well at PBKS,” Singh spoke exclusively on JioHotstar.

“At this moment, I don’t think it will be wise to drop Iyer. You have given him a number of matches. You can only get a quality player back in form by giving him more matches. The money given to him to make him a part of the team may be playing on his mind. ‘I have received so much money, why can’t I make my team a champion?’ There is an overpressure,” the 2007 T20 World Champion concluded.

Reason Why Venkatesh Iyer Is Being Criticised

Venkatesh Iyer receives heavy criticism for his KKR acquisition which cost the franchise 23,75 Crore. The player delivered a weak showing despite the expensive purchase as he participated in 135 races over eight matches averaging 25.80. The term “fraud” emerged from fans while expert RP Singh questioned whether KKR made excessive investments for his acquisition. During his match against SRH he provided the initial strike but his standard performance inconsistencies demanded scrutiny. The outstanding price KKR spent on acquiring him continues to affect his performance and ultimately impacts the team’s strategic dynamics.
