Varun Chakravarthy who excelled in the 2025 Champions Trophy with his mystery bowling abilities has exposed shocking details about his cricketing career. After his lackluster showing in the 2021 T20 World Cup Chakraborty received dangerous phone calls warning him not to come back to India.

Difficult Beginnings
Chakravarthy started his T20I career by facing Sri Lanka in July 2021 before Virat Kohli named him for the T20 World Cup squad. The tournaments turned out to be tough for him because he left the game without bagging a wicket throughout his three matches which featured India’s historic 10-wicket Pakistani victory—the first World Cup defeat against their archrivals.

Mental Health Struggles
During a collaborative YouTube video with Gobinath the cricketer Chakravarthy disclosed his depression after his international tournament. During that phase my situation became extremely hard to manage. He explained how his failure to justify World Cup selection and his disappointment from not getting any wickets left him disheartened.
Threats and Intimidation
The spinner faced frightening situations during the times that followed the 2021 World Cup. The caller threatened me by saying I should never return to India. Individuals sought me out at my residence so I had to conceal myself numerous times. Chakravarthy pointed out that he experienced motorcycle riders following him after he left the airport during that difficult time.
Determined Comeback
After the championship completion Chakravarthy stayed disconnected from the team for three consecutive years. “Returning to the team was much more challenging than my debut,” he admitted. “I had to completely transform my approach—doubling my practice from 50 balls per session and changing my entire routine without knowing if selectors would ever call again.”

Triumphant Return
He achieved international recall in October 2024 because of his strong performances for Kolkata Knight Riders during the Indian Premier League.
