On Thursday, Newcomers USA stunned the cricket world by defeating former champions Pakistan in a Super Over, marking their most significant win in T20 World Cup history. This unexpected result echoed Pakistan’s three-wicket loss to Ireland during the 2007 ODI World Cup in the West Indies, where they were eliminated in the group stage. Although Pakistan will need to face more such upsets to risk a similar early exit this time, the victory has put USA and its players, particularly Mumbai-born Saurabh Netravalkar, who excelled in the crucial Super Over against Babar Azam and his team, in the spotlight.
In the Super Over bowled by Mohammad Amir, USA amassed 18 runs, with eight coming from extras. Saurabh Netravalkar then maintained his composure, bowling brilliantly to concede just 13 runs, securing a historic win for USA. As Netravalkar led his team to victory, his LinkedIn profile went viral on social media, with fans celebrating the ‘software engineer’ from Oracle who made history on cricket’s biggest stage.

His LinkedIn headline reads: “Principal Member of Technical Staff at Oracle, Professional Cricketer”. After this remarkable achievement, it’s time to swap these around.
“It’s a very humbling feeling that life has given me a second chance to pursue what I love doing,” Netravalkar stated post match. “And I really feel that bliss as soon as I walk onto the field to play competitive cricket.”

As for the match, USA’s victory propelled them to the top of Group A with two wins from two games, ahead of their upcoming clash against India. In their opener, USA had defeated Canada by seven wickets.
Opting to field, left-arm spinner Nosthush Kenjige took three wickets for 30 runs, making it difficult for Pakistan to accelerate, and they were restricted to 159 for seven.
In response, USA matched the score, finishing at 159 for 3. Skipper Monank Patel (50 off 38), Aaron Jones (36 not out off 26), and Andries Gous (35 off 26) led the chase from the front.
