Novak Djokovic ended America’s last chance at men’s singles at the US Open 2025 with a victory over Taylor Fritz, his 11th win over him throughout his career, to advance to the semifinals. Serbian ace, 38, won 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 in Tuesday’s quarterfinal at Arthur Ashe Stadium to arrange a blockbuster semifinal against Carlos Alcaraz.
Even though Djokovic has not had a Grand Slam win in two years and has made few appearances on tour this year, he has still made it to the last four at all four of the majors in 2025 – but a final appearance has yet to come his way. Now, having his bid for 25th major title still very much alive, he’s looking to break through in New York.

Following his perfect 11-0 record against Fritz, Djokovic informed journalists that he was eager to upset the predicted story of a Jannik Sinner–Alcaraz clash at Flushing Meadows. The two young talents have monopolized the recent Slam scene, splitting the past seven majors and battling in the Roland Garros and Wimbledon finals this year.
“We don’t need to spend words about two of them,” Djokovic said. “We know that they are [the] two best players in the world.
“Everybody is probably expecting and anticipating the finals between two of them. I’m going to try to, you know, mess up the plans of most people.
“Let’s see. You know, Sinner still has to win a couple of matches to get to the finals. But they are playing definitely the best tennis of any player here. They have been [the] dominant force since the beginning of the tournament.
“But, you know, I definitely am not going with a white flag on the court. I don’t think anybody does really when they play them, but particularly not me.
“I put myself in another semifinals of a Grand Slam this year. I have been very consistent, most consistent on Slams this season, and that’s what I said at the beginning of the year, where I would like to perform my best tennis and make the best results.
“Here we are. I have another chance, another shot. Hopefully, as I said, I can be fit enough and play well enough to keep up with Carlos. Then it can be anybody’s match.”
Djokovic leads 5-3 in overall encounters with Alcaraz, having defeated him in their previous two meetings – Paris Olympics gold medal final and Australian Open quarterfinal this season. In Grand Slam encounters, though, the series is tied 2-2, with both Alcaraz victories having occurred in Wimbledon finals.
Even seeming disadvantaged by physical problems in his first round, Djokovic has recovered to be in good nick since, losing only three sets on his way to the semifinals. Alcaraz, on the other hand, has been unstoppable, dominating the draw without losing a set.
