Novak Djokovic added another big milestone in his historic career on Sunday night at the Flushing Meadows. He became the oldest man ever to reach the quarterfinals at all four Grand Slams in a single season. The 38-year old Serbian legend went past Germany’s Jan-Lennard with a dominant 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 win on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The new feat comes as Djokovic is chasing his 25th Grand Slam singles title. He won straight sets and his head-to-head record has also improved against Struff to a flawless 8-0 as he has won 20 of their 21 sets.
Struff was going forward with a six-match winning streak but Djokovic came in as a storm and shattered his dream of winning the US Open 2025. The Serbian star registered a 4-0 lead in the opening set with aggressive game play. The second set between the two remained tight as it went to 3-all but the unforced errors from Struff which included a double fault – handed over a crucial break. Interestingly, the average rally length dropped to just 3.89 shots – shorter than in any of Djokovic’s previous matches at this year’s US Open, signaling a deliberate shift to quick, first-strike tennis.

With the dominant win against Struff, Djokovic has now reached the quarter-final and he has now joined an elite list with legends like Pancho Gonzalez, Ken Rosewall, and Jimmy Connors as the only men aged 38 or older to reach a US Open quarterfinal. He will now play against Taylor Fritz in US Open 2025 quarter-final on September 2, Tuesday.
