The Women’s Premier League (WPL) wrapped up its much-anticipated mega auction on Thursday, November 27, marking only the second major reshuffle in the league’s history after the inaugural 2023 season. With three successful seasons behind it, the league entered a new chapter as all five franchises refreshed their squads.
Ahead of the auction, each team had the option to retain up to five players. Delhi Capitals – three-time finalists and two-time champions Mumbai Indians both maxed out their retention slots. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the 2024 champions, held on to four players, while Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz went in with the leanest cores, retaining just two and one player respectively.
What’s the dynamics for UP Warriorz?
UP Warriorz walked into the WPL 2026 mega auction with the biggest purse of the season, and they used it to full advantage. With just one player retained ahead of the auction, the franchise had both the flexibility and the money to completely rebuild their squad from scratch.
From a total purse of Rs 15 crore, the Warriorz spent Rs 14.35 crore, leaving almost nothing on the table. Their aggressive approach helped them secure some of the most sought-after names at the auction, adding both firepower and balance to their lineup. With the squad now full at 18 players – including 12 Indians and all 6 overseas slots filled, UP Warriorz have assembled one of the most refreshed and dynamic rosters of the season.
