The Kanpur Superstars have won a place in the final of Uttar Pradesh T20 League 2024, defeating the Lucknow Falcons in a nail-biting Super Over. In the game that kept audiences hooked, Sameer Rizvi pulled off a match-winning six off Bhuvneshwar Kumar to seal the deal for his team, much like the way MS Dhoni does it for the Chennai Super Kings.

The incessant rain right throughout the day had threatened to throw a spanner in the works of Qualifier 2, with the ground getting saturated and many doubts being raised over whether the game would take place. But thanks to the tireless work done by the groundstaff to get the pitch ready and the rain easing up, it was decided to go for the Super Over to determine the result of the game.
The Lucknow Falcons lost their big-hitter, Samarth Singh, to the very first delivery. Captain Priyam Garg managed a boundary and added a few runs before falling to a catch at deep mid-wicket set a modest target of seven runs for the Kanpur Superstars.

Sameer Rizvi’s Match-Winning Six
Kanpur Superstars approached their chase rather cautiously. Sameer Rizvi never lost his cool and turned the strike over to Abhishek Pandey, and a single there ensured he got a chance to try and win it. This was down to the wire now – a chance for Rizvi. Four runs were needed off the last three balls. First, Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a full-length delivery to Rizvi. Rizvi’s finishing stroke was signature CSK for his hero, as a six over long-off sealed the deal with three balls to spare. An emphatic flourish with which the Kanpur Superstars entered the final, much like Dhoni’s finish.
