Man United have launched “Mission 21,” a bold blueprint for securing a 21st Premier League title, underpinned by Sir Dave Brailsford, who enjoyed success with British Cycling and Team Sky. Brailsford took over the performance operations at the club following the exit of sporting director Dan Ashworth, whose working relationship with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and fellow board members disintegrated five months into his role at Old Trafford. Differences in recruitment policy saw him increasingly shut out of key decision-making processes before his actual exit, paving the way for Brailsford to become involved.
Inside United’s Ambitious ‘Mission 21’ Project
Man United have revealed ‘Mission 21’ as part of ‘Project 150’, a long-term strategy for a return to Premier League glory in 2028, in commemoration of the 150th birthday of the club. ‘Mission 1’ entails developing training infrastructure and an environment for high performance in the style of Sir Dave Brailsford’s ‘marginal gains’ theory small, incremental improvements with a big impact. ‘Mission 1’ has also been started in an attempt to move Manchester United Women’s team towards its first Women’s Super League title, signifying the desire of the club for success at all levels.

Experts Behind ‘Mission 21’ And Amorim’s Take
Beyond Brailsford, best in-class professionals including exercise metabolism specialist and former nutritionist for Liverpool FC, James Morton, and distinguished athletics coach Harry Marra, whose field of expertise is player conditioning, have been involved in the scheme. Commented about the scheme, United manager Ruben Amorim cleared that even when the scheme wasn’t a brainwave of his, it’s in agreement with the desire for continuous improvement at the club. In between, United and its sporting director Dan Ashworth agreed to part ways five months into his period, in a recruitment strategy dispute. Despite setbacks, Red Devils insist on returning to the top of English football.
