Uganda Cricket team created history as they have qualified for the T20 World Cup 2024 after defeating Rwanda in the last round of matches in the Africa leg of the qualifiers. With this, all 20 teams have been confirmed for the mega event to be played in West Indies and USA next year. Namibia is the second team from the Africa region to qualify through the qualifiers.

Uganda defeated Rwanda by 9 wickets and with this they’ve won 5 out of its six games which guaranteed them top-two position in the T20 World Cup qualifiers and booked their ticket for T20 World Cup 2024. It will be their maiden appearance in an ICC event.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is knocked out of the tournament as they needed Uganda to lose their match against Rwanda. Earlier on Sunday, Uganda defeated Zimbabwe by five wickets to register their first win against ICC full member team. This meant that Zimbabwe’s poor performance in World Cup qualifiers continues as they had failed to qualify for the 2019 and 2023 ODI World Cups as well.

The top 20 teams to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 are England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand,  Pakistan,  South Africa,  Sri Lanka, Australia. USA, West Indies, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ireland Scotland, Papua New Guinea, Canada, Nepal, Oman, Namibia and Uganda. The tournament is scheduled to be held between 4 June to 30 June 2024.
