The countdown to the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 has officially begun, with the final 16-team line-up confirmed. The tournament, set to be jointly hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia, promises to be a landmark edition – featuring traditional cricketing powerhouses alongside some remarkable underdog stories.
The USA became the 16th and final team to qualify after a dominant run in the Americas Qualifier held in Rydal, Georgia. Led by wicketkeeper-batter Arjun Mahesh, the young Americans sealed their World Cup berth with a game to spare, a sign of the growing cricket culture in the country.
How the 16 Teams Made It
The qualification format was straightforward yet intense.
The top 10 teams from the 2024 edition in South Africa – India, Australia, England, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies, New Zealand, and Ireland – earned direct entry.
Hosts Zimbabwe also secured automatic qualification.
The remaining five slots were filled through regional qualifiers, offering the stage for some stunning cricketing stories.

Africa: Tanzania’s Fairytale Run
Few stories in U19 cricket are as inspiring as Tanzania’s unbeaten qualification campaign. Starting their journey from Division 2, the side shocked giants Namibia and Kenya to seal their ticket.
Their captain, Laksh Bakrania, already experienced at the senior level, was the standout. His all-round brilliance – 208 runs and eight wickets was central to Tanzania’s success. Supported by Mohamedi Mbaki and Khalidy Juma, Tanzania now prepares for a historic home-continent World Cup.
Americas: USA Rise With Confidence
The USA’s qualification was emphatic. They crushed Canada, Bermuda, and Argentina, with their bowlers particularly ruthless – bowling Argentina out for just 34 runs in one match.
Amrinder Singh Gill piled up 199 runs in just three innings, while spinners Ansh Rai and Sahir Bhatia grabbed seven wickets each, underlining the team’s depth. For a nation where cricket is still in its growth phase, this qualification is massive.
Asia: Afghanistan Edge Nepal
Asia produced the tightest battle, with Afghanistan edging Nepal on net run rate after their direct clash was washed out.
Star batter Khalid Ahmadzai hammered 202 runs at an average of 101, while pacer Nooristani Ormazi and spinners Ziatullah Shaheen and Hafieezullah Zadran kept opposition line-ups in check. Afghanistan, a rising force at the senior level, now look to replicate that dominance in the U19 stage.
East Asia-Pacific: Japan’s Unbeaten Campaign
On home soil in Sano, Japan delivered a spotless campaign, defeating Fiji and Papua New Guinea with ease.
Charlie Hara-Hinze earned Player of the Tournament honours with 12 wickets and valuable runs, while Hugo Tani-Kelly and Nihar Parmar showcased strong all-round skills. This marks Japan’s second U19 World Cup appearance, and they’ll be eager to secure their first-ever win on the global stage.
Europe: Scotland Hold Their Nerve
In Dundee, Scotland clinched qualification by defeating The Netherlands in a nail-biting finale. Defending 237, it was Finlay Jones (4/41) and Manu Saraswat (3/43 & 64)* who delivered under pressure, sealing the hosts’ place.
Saraswat’s all-round brilliance and Rory Grant’s 124 against Denmark were highlights of their campaign. Scotland now prepares for its seventh appearance in the last eight editions.
What Lies Ahead
The confirmed line-up reflects a beautiful mix of cricketing traditions and emerging frontiers. With teams like India, Australia, England, and Pakistan aiming to reassert dominance, and new entrants such as Tanzania, Japan, and USA eager to make a mark, the U19 World Cup 2026 promises a showcase of talent, grit, and future superstars.
As the world turns its eyes to Zimbabwe and Namibia next year, one thing is certain: the tournament won’t just decide the next U19 champion—it will also shape the next generation of cricket.
