There is a recent surge in social media involving the spread of deepfake videos featuring celebrities. These videos, created using advanced technology, manipulate the images of well-known personalities to endorse products or disseminate false information. Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has fallen prey to this trend, having denounced a fake video in which he appears to endorse a particular application.
“These videos are fake. It is disturbing to see rampant misuse of technology. Request everyone to report videos, ads & apps like these in large numbers. Social Media platforms need to be alert and responsive to complaints. Swift action from their end is crucial to stopping the spread of misinformation and deepfakes,” Tendulkar said in a post on X.com.
Sachin if often seen to be very active on social media and keeps his fans updated about his life on Instagram, X etc. With the recent deep fake technology causing a lot of trouble to people who see their fake videos being circulated on social media, a strict regulation needs to be circulated so as to prevent these videos from reaching the mass.
