Indian star pacer Mohammed Shami is unlikely to feature in the Test series for Team India due to his recent injury.
According to reports, Shami is currently undergoing rehabilitation for an ankle injury and might not make it in time for the red ball series against The Proteas. With skipper Rohit Sharma ready to leave for Johannesburg along with the last batch of players, Shami might not take the flight.
Players including skipper Rohit, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah etc. are set to depart for South Africa on December 15 via Dubai.
BCCI had also added in their statement that Shami will be a conditional pick for the series as he has been in rehab.
“Mr. Mohd. Shami is currently undergoing medical treatment, and his availability is subject to fitness.” The statement read.
Mohammed Shami was the star bowler for India in the recent ODI World Cup 2023 and finished the tournament as the leading wicket-taker as well.
India look to level series
Meanwhile Team India led by Suryakumar Yadav will be taking on South Africa in the 3rd T20I on December 14 and will hope to level the 3-match series 1-1. The first T20I was abandoned due to rain.
India lost the 2nd T20I against South Africa by 5 wickets in a match which was interrupted by rain. Rinku Singh’s explosive maiden fifty on the night went in vain as Reeza Hendricks and skipper Aiden Markram won the match for the home team with their aggressive approach in just 13.5 overs in the end.
