‘Team India Doesn’t Take Risks’ Former England Player Takes A Dig At Men In Blue

Former England cricketer David Lloyd has downplayed India’s threat in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place in the West Indies and USA from June 2. Despite consistently reaching the knockout stages, India has not won an ICC tournament since 2013, marking a decade without a trophy.

Lloyd expressed doubts about India’s impact in the World Cup, labeling them as a “predictable team.” He acknowledged the high-quality players in the Indian squad but suggested that opponents would not take significant risks against them.

‘Team India is quite a predictable team’

“(It is) quite a predictable team. The shackles are not off. I would think the opposition accept the quality.. yeah, good players these. But they ain’t taking a risk with bat or ball. So, you’d think of them as ‘yeah, they will have their moments,’ but they wouldn’t be really threatening,” said Lloyd on TalkSport Cricket Podcast.

There has been considerable debate about the future of India’s senior players in the T20I side ahead of the tournament. However, the selectors have once again shown confidence in star batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who will be participating in the upcoming tournament. To make room for these experienced players, young finisher Rinku Singh has been moved to the reserves.

Rohit Sharma, who had a disappointing campaign in the previous edition, will captain the team. In the 2022 tournament, he scored 116 runs in six innings, averaging 19.33 with a strike rate of 106.42, including one half-century against the Netherlands.

Virat Kohli faced criticism for his T20I strike rate, which was seen as below modern standards. The 35-year-old was under scrutiny for his slower innings during the first half of the Indian Premier League 2024, but he silenced his critics with an improved strike rate in the latter half of the season.

A Shift Towards BJP's Aggressive Hindutva Amid Opposition's Leadership Crisis

The Maharashtra election may further push the Congress down as it has lost the election at a time when it needed a win most desperately. Though the Congress succeeded in pushing the BJP to a corner and stopping it at less than a majority on its own, it failed to make any headway further.
