India put on a strong display in their sole warm-up match ahead of the T20 World Cup, defeating Bangladesh by a 60-run margin at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Saturday. Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya played key roles with aggressive batting performances as India scored 182 for five. The Indian bowlers then delivered a disciplined performance, limiting Bangladesh to just 122 for nine in their 20 overs.

During the match at the newly constructed stadium in New York, a spectator breached security to approach Rohit Sharma. The incident occurred while Bangladesh was chasing against India. The fan succeeded in hugging the Indian captain before being tackled by two policemen who handcuffed him. Rohit Sharma, concerned for the fan’s safety, urged the policemen to handle the situation gently and not to harm him. The video of the incident quickly went viral on social media during the match.
This was the third time this year that a fan breached security to approach Rohit Sharma. The previous instances occurred during the home Test series against England, when a fan met Rohit and touched his feet during the Hyderabad game, and also during Mumbai Indians’ first match in IPL 2024.

Choosing to bat first in New York, where India will host three of their four league games in the T20 World Cup, the 2007 champions lost Sanju Samson in the second over. However, Rishabh Pant smashed a quickfire 53 off 32 balls, including four boundaries and four sixes. Hardik Pandya, recovering from a disappointing IPL 2024 season, then blasted 40 off 23 deliveries, hitting four sixes and two boundaries, helping India set a target of 182.
Arshdeep Singh triggered Bangladesh’s top-order collapse in the chase by claiming two wickets in his first two overs. Mahmudullah was the standout performer with the bat for Bangladesh, while the rest of the lineup struggled against the Indian attack, eventually managing only 122 for nine in their allotted 20 overs. Shivam Dube also impressed with the ball, ending with figures of 2 for 13 from three overs.
India will play their opening game in the T20 World Cup at the same venue on June 5 against Ireland.
