With the T20 World Cup 2024 on the horizon, the Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally announced the final 15 players who have been granted visas for the quadrennial event. The squad features many surprises such as the inclusion of previously out of favour spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Rinku Singh, who was expected to be part of the initial 15, has been taken as a standby player for the Men in Blue.

Surprises Galore By BCCI
With the final 15 looking set to represent the nation, the question that arises now is how will the country’s playing eleven look like. With the initial matches for Team India featuring arch-rivals Pakistan among other low-ranked teams, the team can see a variety of changes along the course of the initial stages of the tournament.
According to reports, the final spot in India’s squad came down to a decision between Rinku Singh and a backup bowler. The omission of Rinku must have been a difficult choice, considering India’s need for a dynamic middle- and lower-middle-order batsman who can score quickly. Despite Rinku’s impressive performances for India, the selectors opted for a second wrist-spinner in Yuzvendra Chahal over a fourth fast bowler like Avesh Khan. This decision appears to be tailored for matches where India can field two wrist spinners, indicating a strategic selection approach against specific opposition teams.
