MI star batter Suryakumar Yadav has disclosed the reason behind his decision to watch only half of his team’s games on match days, as part of his modified routine aimed at accelerating his recovery process. Surykumar had been sidelined since December of the previous year due to an ankle injury, for which he underwent surgery for a sports hernia, causing him to miss the initial phase of IPL 2024.
Initially, he was unavailable for MI’s first three matches as he was undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Returning to action during the MI vs DC match, Suryakumar Yadav, unfortunately, was dismissed for a duck. Speaking to the IPL’s website, he mentioned that he watched half of the matches to ensure he could sleep by 10:30 every night and wake up early to continue his rehabilitation.
“It is always difficult when your team is playing, sitting in the room and watching the game. I can’t say that I didn’t watch the game, I watched half the games, because I was sleeping on time when I was in Bengaluru. 10:30, 10:45. So I used to watch only half the innings and I would watch the whole game the next day.” SKY said.
“It was difficult, but it gave me a lot of motivation and inspiration looking at them that yes, they’re playing and I have to work hard on my recovery and get there as soon as possible,” he added.

Surykumar further disclosed that after discussions with the staff at the NCA and his wife, they advised him to return from the injury as the best version of himself. Consequently, he committed to maintaining a timely sleep schedule, adhering to a nutritious diet, and cultivating the habit of reading.
“When I spoke to my wife and the staff at NCA, they said it has to be the second version of yourself. You have to be a little different when you return to the field.”
“With that in mind, I started to sleep on time, following a good diet, that was most important. I never read a book in my life, so I started doing that as well. Getting up in the morning, and spending a good amount of time in the rehab center. Connecting myself, my body, and my brain with the rehab.”
