The memory that would come alive for Match 31 of Big Bash League 2024-25 will be that between Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers as the former created a lot of drama during this game. Brisbane Heat’s Lloyd Haskett, the father of their fast bowler Liam Haskett, ended up being the surprised man to get his hands on a six hit against his son when Heat’s Nathan McSweeney launched the shot to deep mid-wicket off Haskett’s delivery in the fourth over of the second innings. The ball sailed into the crowd, and Lloyd took a reverse cup catch, immediately passing it back out onto the field, though not too pleased in the first instance that his son had been struck for a six.

Despite the rare catch, Liam Haskett did not have a great debut in Big Bash as he conceded 43 runs in three overs. He took two wickets, including Michael Neser (18 off 8) and Tom Alsop (10 off 9). His poor bowling did not impact the outcome of the game as Adelaide Strikers won by 56 runs, dismissing Brisbane Heat for 195 in their 20 overs.
Matthew Short’s Brilliant Century Gives Strikers The Boost
Adelaide had put up a massive total of 251/5, mainly due to a brilliant century by the captain, Matthew Short, who scored 109 off 54 balls. Chris Lynn (47 off 20) and Alex Ross (44* off 19) also contributed well to the total.
For Brisbane, McSweeney was the highest run-getter with 43 runs off 24 balls with four boundaries and a six. Matt Renshaw (34 off 16) and Spencer Johnson (27 off 13) also chipped in. D’Arcy Short was the best bowler for Adelaide as he took 4/15 from three overs. Haskett and Lloyd Pope took two wickets each. Pope’s bowling figures were 2/44.

Brisbane Heat’s Struggles In Bowling
Brisbane Heat’s bowlers struggled to contain the Strikers’ batting attack. Matthew Kuhnemann was their best performer with 3/50, while Mitchell Swepson picked up two wickets for 41 runs. Despite their efforts, Brisbane Heat couldn’t chase down Adelaide’s massive total.
