In the IPL 2024 auction held in Dubai on Tuesday, Australian batsman Travis Head secured a contract with Sunrisers Hyderabad for a sum of Rs. 6.8 crore. The auction witnessed a competitive bidding battle primarily between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The bidding for Head commenced with Sunrisers Hyderabad initiating the process. Notably, Head had earned the title of Player of the Match in the World Cup semifinals and finals. Chennai Super Kings entered the fray shortly thereafter, leading to an intense exchange of bids. Ultimately, Sunrisers Hyderabad emerged victorious, securing the services of the Australian power-hitter.

Teams showed a willingness to invest heavily in the Australian cricketer, Travis Head, following his remarkable performance in the ODI World Cup earlier this year. His standout moment was a remarkable 137 runs off 120 balls in the final against India. Throughout the tournament, Head accumulated 329 runs in six innings at an impressive average of 54.83.

In contrast to the previous year’s auction, where he went unsold at a base price of Rs. 2 crore, the scenario changed significantly in the current auction, reflecting the increased demand for his services. Travis Head had previously played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. The teams’ renewed interest in him suggests a recognition of his cricketing prowess and recent stellar performances.

Travis Head made his debut for South Australia in the 2011-12 season. He quickly rose through the ranks, showcasing his talent as a promising batsman.

Head had significant success in domestic cricket, representing South Australia in the Sheffield Shield and the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League (BBL). He was known for his aggressive style of play and ability to score quickly.

Travis Head made his international debut for Australia in a T20I against India in January 2016. He later made his One Day International (ODI) debut against the West Indies in June 2016.

Apart from his batting prowess, Travis Head has been involved in leadership roles. He served as the captain of the Adelaide Strikers in the BBL. Head continued to be a part of the Australian national team across formats, contributing with the bat. He played a key role in Australia’s Test team, often batting in the middle order.
