Indian Cricketer Saurav Ganguly narrowly escaped a major road accident on Durgapur Expressway on Thursday. Ganguly, who is the former captain of the Indian cricket team, was going to attend a University programme in Burdwan when his car crashed into a speeding lorry. However, he escaped without any serious injuries.
According to reports, when Ganguly was heading to attend an programme at Burdwan University, a lorry driver suddenly applied brakes. To avoid an accident as the cricketer’s driver applies brakes, two cars—parts of the Ganguly convoy—collided with each other. Police said the incident took place near Dadupur on the Durgapur Expressway.
However, except for damages to cars, no one sustained any injuries. Later, after a 15- to 20-minute stop, Ganguly left for the programme where he had a conversation with university students. After the university programme, Ganguly went to a stadium in Vardhman to attend another programme.
“I am overwhelmed. It feels great to be in Burdwan. I am even more happy that you invited me. BDS (Burdwan Sports Association) was asking me to come for a long time. It feels great to be here today. CAB has been working with the Burdwan sports organization for 50 years. Many players have emerged from the district. We will have to recruit players from the district in the same way in the future as well.” Ganguly said in a event as quoted by Hindustan.
