New Delhi: Smriti Mandhana set a new record after she scored half-century while playing for Southern Braves in the Women’s Hundred on Friday against Welsh Fire. Mandhana, who scored 50 runs for the second time in a row this season, surpassed her Indian teammate Jemimah Rodrigues to become player with most fifties in the history of Hundred’s Women.

Mandhana has broken the 50-run record five times, and Rodriguez has hammered fifty for four time in the women’s Hundred record. England batsman Danny Wyatt, who plays for the Sothern’s alongside Mandhana, also scored reached this mark five time.
Mandhana is off to her great start this season. She scored 55 runs in the season opener against the Trent Rockets. Mandhana was named the team’s opener for the second game as well. She went undefeated and played 70 runs knock off just 44 balls. Her knock include 11 boundaries, but Southern Braves fell just four runs shot to win the match.

Chasing the target, Southern Braves got off to a strong start. Mandhana and Wyatt (67 from 37 balls) shared a 96-run partnership for the first wicket. Mandhana did not get support from the other end after Wyatt’s dismissal. Maya Bouchier and Chloe Tryon added 9-9 runs. Significantly, Southern Brave vs Welsh Fire is the first match of the Women’s Hundred, in which three players scored 50 plus scores.
