Mumbai registered a five-wicket victory over Madhya Pradesh to lift the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. The Shreyas Iyer led side chased down the target of 175 runs with immense ease wherein Suryakumar Yadav and Suryansh Shegde played important knocks to ensure that their team crosses the line with ease. MP skipper Rajat Patidar put up a stellar effort with the bat and played an unbeaten innings of 81 runs from 40 balls which included six fours and six sixes. No other batter except the Madhya Pradesh skipper stayed at the crease for long and got out cheaply.

Mumbai Lift Second SMAT Title
Batting first, Madhya Pradesh lost openers Arpit Gaud and Harsh Gawli in a matter of just 1 run. Shardul Thakur picked up the opening two wickets of the match for Mumbai. Subhranshu Senapati and Harpreet Singh were also not able to do much and got dismissed for scores of 23 and 16 runs respectively. Despite wickets from one end, Rajat Patidar kept his cool and nerves balanced to play an impactful knock. Shardul Thakur and Royston Dias picked up two-wickets apiece for Mumbai and MP registered a first innings score of 174/8.

Chasing down the target, Prithvi Shaw once again failed with the bat and got out for just 14 runs. However, Ajinkya Rahane continued his magical form and played an innings of 37 runs from 30 balls. Towards the end, Suryakumar Yadav began to take charge and hit the MP bowlers to all parts of the ground. Suryansh Shegde played an unbeaten innings of 36 runs towards the end and helped his team win the match by five-wickets and lift the SMAT title. Shedge was also named the Player of the Match whereas Rahane won the Player of the Series award.
