Suryakumar Yadav’s participation has been in doubt for the upcoming Duleep Trophy as he picked up an injury in his hand playing a match for Mumbai during the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament on Friday.
Suryakumar Yadav Gets Injured
The injury might hurt his aim to get back into the Test side-something which he has targeted since his first Test match in February 2023 against Australia during the Border-Gavaskar series. Recently named as the new captain of the Indian T20I team following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the format in June, Suryakumar showed his full eagerness to return to Test cricket. He showed this by making himself available for the Duleep Trophy next month and participating in the Buchi Babu tournament in Coimbatore, organized by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.

The batter hit the ball towards Suryakumar and he made a diving effort to stop the ball but injured his hand. The ball hit his right hand. He was in considerable pain and retired hurt immediately with medical attention. Suryakumar, meanwhile, did not bat in the second innings after top-scoring with 30 off 38 balls in the first.
Ambiguity Over Suryakumar’s Participation In Duleep Trophy
Even though an injury is sustained by him, the BCCI is yet to make an official announcement in this regard. With just five days left for the commencement of the Duleep Trophy, it is not certain that he will be fit to play. Recently, the selectors made it clear that the Duleep Trophy will be a sort of rehearsal for selecting the 15-member Indian squad, which will figure in the impending home Test series against Bangladesh, commencing on September 19.
