Shubman Gill, a young cricketer from Punjab came into spotlight in 2018. He made his first appearance in the ICC U-19 World Cup. He scored 372 runs at an average of 124.0 and was named as the Player of the Tournament. Gill was then picked in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after which he went on to play for the Indian Team.

This year Shubman Gill has turned 25 and he has etched his name in Indian cricket by constantly setting new records and giving top performances.

Half Century In First-Class Debut Against Bengal

Shubman Gill made his First Class Debut on November 17, 2017 for Punjab against Bengal. He played an impressive knock of 63 in the first innings which surely left his mark.

Player Of The Tournament, ICC U-19 World Cup

Gill made an appearance in the U-19 World Cup in 2018. He scored stunning 372 runs in just 5 innings with an average of 124. His even scored a remarkable century against Pakistan in the semi-finals.

Youngest Captain To Lead A Team In Deodhar Trophy Finals

At just 20 years of age, Gill captained India C against India B in 2019-2020 season. Even though India B won the match, Gill’s remarkable performance assured India of a cricketing star.

Test Debut Against Australia

Shubman Gill could not have asked for a venue more iconic than the MCG for his Test debut. Against an Australian team, Gill came out looking as a picture of calmness and technical solidity. He scored 45 in the first innings and 35 in the second was actually what the doctor ordered for India’s turnaround from an innings defeat at the Adelaide Oval to an unforgettable win at the MCG.

But it was at the Gabba that Gill made his proper mark on international cricket. Chasing a target of over 320 to win this series, Gill played a daredevil knock of 91. His fearless attack against Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, and Pat Cummins was not only the highest score in the match for India but set the stage for one of the greatest series wins.

Shubman Gill made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka in January 2023, but his most impressive knock came in India vs New Zealand three-match T20I series. In the 3rd T20I he held the innings with Rahul Tripathi to score to biggest-ever total 234. Gill played a sensational knock of 126 runs.

Highest Individual Score For India In T20Is

New Zealand toured India, which included the 3-match T20I and ODI series in the beginning of Shubman Gill’s T20I career. The brilliant form that Gill had shown with 208 in the ODIs carried into the T20Is with an unbeaten 126, which also had plenty of records: the highest individual score by an Indian in T20Is, beating Virat Kohli’s earlier record of 122 against Afghanistan in 2022. That knock sealed his reputation as the new shining star in international cricket.

Youngest Batter To Score Double Century In ODIs

He reached this milestone against New Zealand in January 2023, becoming the fifth Indian cricketer to score a double century in ODIs, joining the ranks of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, and Ishan Kishan. At only 23 years and 132 days old, he is the youngest player to accomplish this feat, further cementing his status as one of the most promising talents in global cricket.

Fastest Indian Player To Reach 1000 Runs In ODI

Gill achieved the milestone of reaching 1000 runs in just 19 innings. He is placed at joint second place with Pakistan’s Imam-Ul-Haq.

Fastest Player To Reach 2000 Runs In ODI

Shubman Gill became the fastest player to reach 2000 runs in just 19 innings. He achieved the milestone in 2023 ODI World Cup match against New Zealand. He broke the record of South Africa’s Hashim Amla who reached 2000 runs in 40 innings.

Youngest Batter With Century In All Formats

Just at the age of 23 and 146 days, he accomplished this stellar feat. He joined the elite list of Indian cricketers with centuries in all formats.

Youngest Player To Win Orange Cap In IPL

The year 2023 can be termed the standout chapter in the career of Shubman Gill. Along with his performances coming good in international cricket, Gill had a dream IPL season where he grabbed the Orange Cap in a breakthrough tournament. He also became the second-highest run-scorer in a single IPL season with 890 runs, after Virat Kohli’s record of 973 runs in the year 2016. At just 23 years old, Gill also managed to be the youngest player to bag the Orange Cap, considering the big boxes he has ticked in his cricketing journey so far.

Gill is also became the youngest player to play 100 matches in IPL, he reached this milestone on 24 April, 2024.
