The young Indian cricket team, captained by Shubman Gill, is gearing up for a five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, starting on July 6 in Harare. While the squad has already departed, Gill will join them directly from the United States.

This series, under the supervision of National Cricket Academy head VVS Laxman, includes a blend of new talents who have recently excelled in the IPL. According to a PTI report, Shubman Gill, who was previously the reserve opener for the T20 World Cup, has been on a break and will meet his teammates in Harare.

Newcomers Riyan Parag and Abhishek Sharma have received their first call-ups to the national team following impressive performances in the IPL. The BCCI has posted images of the squad boarding their flight on social media platform X. The squad members include Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, Tushar Deshpande, and VVS Laxman.

However, five key players—Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, and Khaleel Ahmed—are currently stuck in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. These players, who were part of the T20 World Cup-winning team or traveling reserves, will join the team in Zimbabwe once the weather conditions improve.

The recent retirement of senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja from the T20 format has created opportunities for younger players. This series against Zimbabwe is a crucial opportunity for these emerging talents to establish themselves in the national team for future assignments.
