Birmingham: India boxer Shiva Thapa knocked out of CWG2022 after he lost to Lynch Reese in Round of 16.
Thapa was fighting in Men’s 60kg-63.5kg (Light Welter) category when he lost his chances of sailing ahead in the Commonwealth Games.
Shiva Thapa knocked out of CWG2022
The India boxer got the score of perfect 10 by every judge in first round and took the lead. However, he couldn’t maintain the lead and lost the second round by getting 9 points by four judges and 10 by fifth judge. The match went into decider round which he lost again.
Earlier, Women boxer Nikhat Zareen had won her R16 and sailed into quarter finals against Mozambique’s Bagao Helena Ismael on Day 3.
AIBA World Boxing Championships third ranked Thapa is also the third Indian to win gold in the Asian Games. After becoming the youngest Indian player to participate in Olympics in 2012, Shiva Thapa did not get past the preliminary round in 2016 Rio Olympics. Shiva couldn’t qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
Indian wins 5 medals in Weightlifting
India has won 5 medals so far in the ongoing CWG in Birmingham and all the medals have been secured in the game of Weightlifting.
Mirabhai Chanu and Jeremy Lalrinnunga got the gold in their respective along with setting new Commonwealth Games record.
