In recent developments, the Indian cricket team’s star opener, Shikhar Dhawan, is now divorced from his wife, Ayesha Mukherjee. This significant news emanates from the Family Court situated within the Patiala House complex in Delhi, where the divorce was officially approved.
The court’s decision stemmed from the acknowledgment that Ayesha Mukherjee had inflicted mental distress upon Shikhar Dhawan by compelling him to live separately from their only son for an extended period.
Family Court Judge Harish Kumar not only accepted all the allegations presented by Dhawan in his divorce petition but also noted that Ayesha Mukherjee was unable to mount a defence for these allegations.
While the court refrained from issuing a permanent custody order for the couple’s son, it granted Shikhar Dhawan the right to spend time with his son in both India and Australia, including interactive video calls. The court instructed Ayesha Mukherjee to facilitate the child’s visits to India, which would encompass overnight stays with Dhawan and his family members, for a minimum of half the duration of school holidays during the academic year.
The court emphasized that Shikhar Dhawan, as a renowned international cricketer, holds not only the rights of a citizen but also the responsibilities of a father. Furthermore, the court recognized the child’s entitlement to be in the company of his father and extended family.
The 37-year-old cricketer is currently facing challenges not only in his personal life but in his cricketing career as well. Currently, his cricketing journey has encountered difficulties as he strives to secure his spot on the team. Dhawan failed to secure a place in the Indian team for the ODI World Cup.
