New Delhi: Shikhar Dhawan may lead India in the series against South Africa as rumours of resting key players are rife. India is set to two home series before the World Cup, against Australia then against South Africa.

BCCI Sources says Shikhar Dhawan can be the captain

BCCI sources have said that Shikhar Dhawan can be made the captain in the ODI series against Africa. The players going for the T20 World Cup can be rested.

The ICC T20 World Cup will be played in October-November this year. The team are assumed to be announced today evening. The selectors’ meeting is going to be held in Mumbai this evening in which the team will be selected.

Recently, Team India, who was out of the Super-4 stage in the Asia Cup-2022, is now directly targeting the World Cup.

Also VVS Laxman is likely to accompany the team as a coach in the absence of head coach Rahul Dravid. India will play three T20 Internationals and ODIs against South Africa from 28 September.

The first T20I will be held on 28 September in Thiruvananthapuram. The second T20I will be played on Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, 2022 in Guwahati to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, followed by the final T20I in Indore on October 4. After this the ODI series will start, where Shikhar Dhawan can lead the team.
