Russia’s tennis star Daniil Medvedev found himself surrounded by controversy once again as he was involved in a heated exchange with the umpire in the thirs round of clash at the Shanghai Masters. He was playing against America’s Learner Tien and grew visibly frustrated when he was given a code of conduct violation for taking longer time for serves.
He did not hold back and voiced his frustration, he pointed out that it was a double standard and claimed that Spanish star Rafael Nadal was never penalised for a lengthy serve time throughout his career. He said he waited for 55 seconds so that Nadal could complete his serve.

Medvedev to the umpire:
"All my life, I've been serving & waiting for Rafa for 55 seconds. And you give me a code violation on the first occasion. I played Rafa 5 times, there was not one time I was ready to serve and he was ready to return. He didn't get one time violation." pic.twitter.com/J88OklJi1y---Advertisement---— Corvath Draemir (@Archaicmind3000) October 8, 2025

This wasn’t the first time Daniil Medvedev has gotten involved in a controversy, even in the US Open 2025 he was slapped with a penalty of $42.500 as he lashed out an official there also. This happened in match against Benjamin Bronzi where he also smashed his racket and broke it.
