Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi clarified a recent issue involving former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina over a social media post. Afridi mentioned that he spoke with Raina about the matter, leading Raina to eventually delete his post. The controversy arose when Raina responded to a Pakistani journalist who seemed to mock him following Afridi’s appointment as one of the ambassadors for the T20 World Cup.

“ICC has named Shahid Afridi as an ambassador for ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Hello Suresh Raina?” the journalist tweeted on ‘X’.
“I’m not an ICC ambassador, but I have the 2011 World Cup at my house. Remember the game at Mohali? Hope it brings back some unforgettable memories for you,” Raina replied.

In his response, Raina reminded the journalist that he possesses a 2011 ODI World Cup trophy and recalled India’s significant victory over Pakistan in the semi-final in Mohali. Afridi revealed on his YouTube channel that he persuaded Raina to delete the tweet from ‘X’.
“Suresh Raina and I have shared many cricketing moments, and he’s a good person,” Afridi said.
“Sometimes, light-hearted banter happens. After seeing his post on social media, I spoke with him, and he understood the situation like a younger brother. He agreed to delete the tweet. It’s all good; these things happen. Great individuals acknowledge and rectify their mistakes,” he added.
The situation began when the Pakistani journalist reacted to Raina’s light-hearted comment during an IPL commentary. When asked if he would come out of retirement to play in India’s T20 World Cup squad, Raina replied he was Raina, not Afridi, referencing Afridi’s history of reversing his retirement decision.
