After being excluded from the India women’s national cricket team, Indian opener Shafali Verma showcased signs of her comeback as she played an innings of 197 runs from 115 balls during the Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy match between Bengal and Haryana. Verma smashed 22 fours and 11 sixes during her stay at the crease. Haryana put up a first innings total of 389/5. Verma also put up a stand of 173 runs along with Reema Sisodia for the first wicket, who played an innings of 58 runs from 72 balls which included eight boundaries. Later, Triveni Vasistha and Sonia Mendhiya played innings of 46 and 61 runs respectively, which helped Haryana put up a big first innings score.

Shafali Verma hadn’t been able to score runs from a long time despite been given suitable amount of chances. Verma lost her place in the national side following her disappointing performance in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 held in the United Arab Emirates. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur stated that Shafali Verma is an important for the side and the team wants her back into the zone.

Harmanpreet Kaur said after ODIs against Australia, “She (Shafali) is a very important player for us and has done exceptionally well for the country. We are looking forward to seeing her get back into her zone and perform well for the team.” In seven games of the ongoing Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy, Shafali Verma has scored 527 runs at an average of 75.28 and a strike-rate of 152.31, which includes two hundreds and two half-centuries.
