In a dominating performance on Sunday evening, the Seattle Sounders defeated Lionel Messi and Inter Miami 3-0 to claim the Leagues Cup trophy. The match, was played in front of a record-breaking crowd of 69,314 people at Lumen Field, but it was a collapse for Miami as the Sounders played an excellent game throughout.
De Rosario Strikes First
With a cast of stars that included Lukaku, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Nurkovic, it seemed Inter Miami should have been able to break down Seattle’s well-organized defense. The Sounders, who were high on intensity from the kick-off, broke through in the 26th minute. Osaze De Rosario seized on a slip by the defense to give Seattle the opening goal.

Roldan Doubles the Lead with Penalty
Seattle sealed their victory early in the second half when a sloppy tackle by Miami within the box resulted in a penalty. Alex Roldan stepped forward and calmly scored, making the Sounders 2-0 ahead and extending their control of the game further.
Rothrock Seals the Victory
As the game ran out of steam, Paul Rothrock clinched it with a late strike to make it 3-0, and the Lumen Field faithful were left in jubilant celebrations. The Sounders’ record-breaking win not only took the Leagues Cup but also brought another big trophy to their already impressive collection of MLS Cup titles, U.S. Open Cups, and the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League.
Seattle Sounders Make History
Through the victory, Seattle became the initial Major League Soccer side to win each major North American title available. The victory further qualified them automatically to play in the Round of 16 of the 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup, which would be a qualifier for the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup.
