Indian badminton players Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty secured a spot in the finals of the Malaysia Open Super 1000 tournament. The duo achieved the feat by beating the world champions, South Korea’s Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae in straight games on Saturday. The Indian duo, ranked second in the world, staged a comeback in the second game, saving five game points and ultimately prevailing over the Korean pair with a score of 21-18, 22-20.

The highly effective pair, presently holding the second position in the global rankings, sustained their outstanding performance from the previous year, securing six titles in 2023.

The Indian duo have scripted history by becoming the first two Indians to reach the final of the Malaysian Open in any discipline since 1983.

The Indian duo will compete against the victor of the match featuring the top-ranked Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang from the People’s Republic of China, facing off against the seventh-ranked Japanese pair Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi. The championship match is scheduled to take place on Sunday.

Satwik and Chirag found themselves on the verge of clinching their second Super 1000 title, with their initial victory achieved at the Indonesian Open in June of the previous year.
